Production Performance Brief

How to Compare Water Bottling Line Performance Offers

Turn a quoted BPH figure into a production requirement that purchasing and engineering can both check before an order.

Direct answer

What should a water bottling line performance specification include?

Specify the reference bottle and finished pack, accepted output, scheduled production window, connected equipment boundary, utilities, permitted interventions and test method. Ask every bidder to respond to those same conditions and identify deviations. A filler speed on its own does not define a complete-line output commitment.

Review point 01

Write the output requirement before comparing prices

State the product, bottle drawing, neck and cap, label, bottles per pack and final counting point. Separate new equipment, retained machines and buyer-supplied connections. This page compares the production promise behind an offer, not a generic plant budget.

  • Define accepted bottles or complete packs per scheduled shift, not only the maximum running speed.
  • List changeovers, cleaning and material replenishment included in that window.
  • State point-of-use water, power and compressed-air conditions without substituting installed utility totals.

Review point 02

Worked comparison: two BPH figures that mean different things

Illustrative comparison, not actual supplier offers: the buyer needs 40,000 accepted bottles in an 8-hour scheduled window. Offer A states 6,000 BPH during a 30-minute filler demonstration. Offer B states an average of 5,500 accepted bottles/h over the complete 8-hour connected test on the agreed pack. B describes 44,000 accepted bottles on its stated basis; A does not yet establish a shift output.

  • Do not extrapolate the short filler demonstration to 48,000 accepted bottles.
  • Request the same connected test, time boundary and reject rules from both bidders.
  • Neither the illustration nor a written claim replaces test evidence or the final agreement.

Review point 03

Separate a deviation from an optional extra

Use comply, deviate, excluded, optional and buyer-supplied against each requirement. A missing packer recovery test is a verification gap; an optional packer is a scope difference. Both can change the value of a quotation even if its headline price is lower.

  • Name the machine or party responsible for each material, conveyor and control handoff.
  • Record format parts, recipes, drawings, software access and operator documentation needed for the agreed SKU.
  • Price a change only after its effect on the common output basis is clear.

Review point 04

What to send for a performance review

Send a non-confidential requirement sheet and relevant proposal extracts, bottle/pack details, required output and unresolved deviations. For an existing line, include its measured output and the equipment to retain. Agree the final supply and performance conditions in the project quotation.

  • FAT: establish what can actually be verified before shipment.
  • SAT: test the installed connections, utilities and accepted output on site.
  • Define pass criteria, count reconciliation, allowed interventions and how an unresolved test is corrected and repeated.

Questions before specification

Frequently asked questions

Answers are planning guidance. Project requirements and performance remain subject to confirmed data and agreements.

Is the higher-BPH quotation always the better offer?

No. Different formats, test windows, equipment boundaries and reject definitions can make the figures incomparable. Normalize those conditions before ranking offers.

Can the specification guarantee that every bottle size runs at one speed?

No. List each production SKU and its confirmed performance conditions. Bottle volume alone does not establish neck, handling, label or pack compatibility.

Do I need to upload a complete confidential quotation?

No. Begin with non-confidential technical extracts and redact unrelated commercial or personal information. The request form also accepts a short description without an attachment.
